Update from Plan International about the ongoing crisis in Ukraine,

2022-03-03

"Hello,

Plan International is now mobilizing its humanitarian response capacity to support organizations in Poland, Moldova and Romania that work around the clock to support Ukrainian families in need. As a global children's rights organization, Plan International has supported children, young people and families on the run and crises around the world, with an extra focus on girls' vulnerability in times of crisis.

Based on previous experience, we know that children's mental health is seriously affected by violence in war. Children and their families are in urgent need of a roof over their heads, blankets, food and water. Families have fled with what they could carry. It is cold and many are in urgent need of a roof over their heads, blankets, food and water. The fleeing children lose their opportunity to go to school. It's about education, but also about a safe place, friends, one meal a day and perhaps most important of all: a normal everyday life.

Plan International is now preparing our response with a focus on supporting those fleeing violence, which are mainly women and children. Plan International will do its best to contribute what is the organization's cutting-edge expertise in protection from violence, psychosocial support, necessities and education - all with an extra focus on gender equality and girls' extra vulnerability. The activities will be carried out in collaboration with local partners.

We ask with this letter for your extra support during this difficult time. Together we can contribute with emergency aid such as food, water and protection. We can secure places where children can be children. We can also give support to children to process what they have seen and experienced.

The children at the refugee reception centers should feel safe. No child shall be subjected to violence, abuse or otherwise exploited. We work with local organizations to set up safe places where children can get information, participate in activities and just be children"
